Once the primary fluid temperature reaches a targeted condition, the circulation pump is completely isolated by the control valves. The secondary loop is an open circuit for introducing the ambient water as a sink fluid into the SG. The flow rate of the secondary fluid is the crucial parameter for regulating the heat-removal rate in the SG.

Can the NCL model be used for a steady-state solution of SPNC?

The unexpected characteristics of the NC flow rate caused by the exceptional trend in SG heat-transfer were clearly demonstrated through sensitivity analysis for the NCL model. It is expected that the present NCL model can be utilized for obtaining a precise steady-state solution of the SPNC loop for any configurations and working conditions.

Does the SG model improve the predictability of NC flow rate?

Before the SG model is employed, the temperature profile inside the SG is approximated to be linear. The results clearly indicate that practical considerations improve the predictability of the NC flow rate, making the predicted value closer to the measured value.

How accurate are NC flow rates predicted using the NCL model?

The NC flow rates predicted using the proposed NCL model for 29 steady-state conditions were within 5% error compared with the measurements for all cases. Additionally, the predictions of the temperature profile along the primary loop closely matched the measurements for all working conditions.
