Photovoltaic with battery energy storage systems in the single building and the energy sharing community are reviewed. Optimization methods, objectives and constraints are analyzed. Advantages, weaknesses, and system adaptability are discussed. Challenges and future research directions are discussed.
The PV systems combined with buildings, not only can take advantage of PV power panels to replace part of the building materials, but also can use the PV system to achieve the purpose of producing electricity and decreasing energy consumption in buildings .
Photovoltaic (PV) has been extensively applied in buildings, adding a battery to building attached photovoltaic (BAPV) system can compensate for the fluctuating and unpredictable features of PV power generation. It is a potential solution to align power generation with the building demand and achieve greater use of PV power.
The battery of the second system cannot only store electricity from the PV system, but also store electricity from the grid at low valley tariffs, and the stored electricity can be supplied to the buildings or sold to the grid to realize price arbitrage.
Many studies have been conducted to optimize the capacity and operation of the PV-BESS in the single building and the energy sharing community. They provided the theoretical basis and guidance for the development and application of the PV-BESS. In recent years, some review studies have focused on the PV-BESS.
This could lead to an increasing amount of photovoltaic production in the residential sector. Additionally, it is possible that when all the incentives are taken into account, electrical energy storage in combination with photovoltaic power generation would be more profitable than photovoltaic power generation alone.
