New fluorinated sulfones were synthesized and evaluated in high voltage lithium-ion batteries using a LiNi Mn Co O (NMC532) cathode. Fluorinated sulfones with an α-trifluoromethyl group exhibit enhanced oxidation stability, reduced viscosity and superior separator wettability as compared to their non-fluorinated counterparts.
Exploiting sulfonyl fluorides in chemoselective manipulations is a key area of research, including the development of new sulfur (vi)-fluoride exchange (SuFEx) reactions, and the development of bi- or multi-functional sulfonyl fluoride reagents that enable the straightforward installation of the sulfonyl fluoride functional group.
The motivation behind developing liquid fluoride-ion electrolytes for batteries is to achieve better ionic conductivity in the electrolyte and a wider ESW. Although alkali metal fluorides are readily available, their solubility in commonly used high-boiling organic solvents is usually less than 0.05 M [ 204 ].
A recent report by Xing and Li and colleagues showed that using p -toluenesulfonyl fluoride as an additive enhanced the cyclic performance (the turnover number) of lithium ion batteries using a Ni-rich cathode 194.
Conclusion In the present study, a new fluorine-containing sulfone-based electrolyte system was proposed to stabilize Li-metal anode. Result shows that it is a feasible and prominent approach to suppress Li dendrite formation and enhance the cycling life by the synergistic effect of LiFSI and FEC.
