China is currently dominating all steps of the photovoltaic solar panel production process, a report released by Bloomberg NEF shows. China is massively expanding photovoltaics and has also been relying on agricultural photovoltaics (agri-PVs) for several years. This plant in the northern Chinese province of Hebei has an area of more than 10 hectares, with grain growing beneath. The solar modules are manufactured nearby.
As China plans to speed up construction of solar and wind power generation facilities in dry regions amid efforts to boost renewable power, the government launched the first phase of its wind and solar power projects at the end of 2021, comprising a total of 100 gigawatts of wind and solar power capacity in desert areas.
The newly added installed capacity of wind power rose to 10.4 million kW while that of solar power rose to 33.66 million kW, it said. In the first quarter, China's total installed capacity of renewable energy reached 1.26 billion kW, including 376 million kW of wind power and 425 million kW of photovoltaic power.
