The LIB is a typical closed system where the inner states should be estimated from the external measurements. Therefore, a high-fidelity battery model linking the inner states of interest and measurements is the prerequisite to realize the real-time state estimation and state-constrained battery control.
Lithium-ion batteries can use the intelligent algorithms to address their complex, dynamic, and nonlinear features. Model-based approaches and intelligent approaches are two of the most often used strategies in BMS. The intricate, vibrant, and non-linear features of lithium-ion batteries can be addressed by the intelligent algorithms.
The current and voltage sensors can extend their use in future smart batteries, but the priority of different type of sensors may change compared to the traditional LIB pack due to the special design of smart cell, especially for the current sensor.
Amongst others, the RTD and thermocouples have viewed the most applications with respect to the battery internal temperature measurement. Apart from this, the optical FBG sensor is an emerging technique in recent years showing prospective for fast and in-situ battery temperature measurement.
Experimental results from the same research group suggest a high linearity of the foil resistance against the typical working temperature of vehicle battery (from −40 °C to 60 °C), promising the potential for in-situ and internal temperature monitoring of the LIB. The effective monitoring of the internal temperature is vital for the proposed ACB.
Kim et al. investigated the effects of different electrical designs on the performance and aging of the battery packs by recognizing the influence of electrical configurations of battery packs, such as series and parallel connections, on the performance and lifespan.
