Foldable solar panels, batteries, and inverters are included in the system, which can be stored in a trunk of an electric vehicle. Different angles of solar panel deployment and different levels of solar irradiation were used in the experiments to evaluate the performance of the system.
The system’s ability to integrate solar power and battery energy storage to provide uninterrupted power for EVs is a significant step towards reducing reliance on fossil fuels and minimizing grid overload. Simulink modelling of a charging controller and a detailed hybrid charging station is provided.
The harvested solar energy from vehicle integration of PV on roof sometimes on hood, trunk or the side doors of vehicle, reduce the frequency of grid based charging and contribute in overall increase in motion (Brito et al., 2021).
The primary objective is to design an efficient and environmentally sustainable charging system that utilizes solar energy as its primary power source. The SCS integrates state-of-the-art photovoltaic panels, energy storage systems, and advanced power management techniques to optimize energy capture, storage, and delivery to EVs.
However, the widespread adoption of EVs is still hindered by limited charging infrastructure and concerns about the environmental impact of electricity generation. This research project focuses on the development of a Solar Charging Station (SCS) tailored specifically for EVs.
Specifically, we compare key parameters such as cost, power density, energy density, cycle life, and response time for various energy storage systems. For energy storage systems employing ultra capacitors, we present characteristics such as cell voltage, cycle life, power density, and energy density.
