Supportive policies that deepen power sector reform and boost renewables adoption, are also essential to accelerate the energy transition. Especially in China, a more market-oriented wholesale electricity market is the key to passing on the price signal of carbon pricing .
In addition, it is also found that the market share of PV power has the most significant change of 7.3%, followed by wind power at 6.2% and hydropower with the slightest change of 1.1%. Therefore, increasing R&D support for wind and PV power can significantly promote the realization of the energy transition in China. Fig. 14.
In addition, under the market competition, on-grid prices of three renewable energy sources will all be stable at around 0.1 yuan/kWh. Compared with the benchmark on-grid price, the marketed on-grid price can significantly promote the realization of the energy transition goal in China.
Employing a five-year incremental approach, the research tracks the electricity generation and PII of various types of RE in China for the years 2010, 2015, and 2020 (shown in Fig. 7 and Table 5). Firstly, it systematically reviewed the five-year development plans for RE, outlining policy goals and key deployments.
The massive increase in solar module production capacity and PV installations in China is helping the country to maintain relatively low, stable power prices compared to Europe and the United States, which suffer from rising PV curtailment and high inflation, according to Wood Mackenzie.
Through deeper reform, improved policies, strategic plans, and the rule of law as guarantee, China has been able to fully leverage the decisive role of the market in resource allocation while ensuring that the government better plays its role. This has created an enabling environment for the green and low-carbon energy transition. 1.
