Photovoltaic cell – The basic device that converts light into dc electricity; the building block of photovoltaic modules. a negative-type dopant. An electric field is established at the p-n junction which gives direction to the flow of light-stimulated electrons.
The unframed types have a low profile approximately 9mm and are lightweight, the 20W version weighs only 1.49kg. A photovoltaic (PV) system may have a minimum of two components, the module and the load to be powered. Thin-film cells – Photovoltaic cells made from a number of layers of photo-sensitive materials. The photovoltaic effect is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. This occurs when the PV cell is struck by photons (sunlight), ‘freeing’ silicon electrons to travel from the PV cell, through electronic circuitry, to a load (Figure 1). Then they return to the PV cell, where the silicon recaptures the electron and the process is repeated.
