Abstract—A wide dynamic range CMOS image sensor with dual capture using floating diffusion capacitor is proposed. The proposed structure performs dual capture without on-chip frame memories and the dynamic range of the proposed image sensor is controllable with dual electronic rolling shutter. The chip includes 320 (H) × 240 (V) effective pixels.
Abstract: A dual-capture wide dynamic range CMOS image sensor using an in-pixel floating-diffusion (FD) storage capacitor is proposed. The proposed structure uses the FD as a storage capacitor. The potential of the FD node is read out using a floating-gate capacitor without a contact metallization of the FD node to reduce the leakage.
Therefore, using a capacitance image sensor made it easier to visualize the electrical connections. In Figure 19, transparent electrodes with a pitch of 216 µm were lined up, and the electrode to which φC was applied appeared white.
The authors reported an over 87 dB SEHDR CIS with a 3.0 μm pixel introducing a high full-well capacity (FWC) photodiode (PD) and a multiple gain pixel technology [1, 2, 3, 4]. In the previous sensor, photoelectrons accumulated in the photodiode are read out two times in different gains, then combined into an HDR signal.
It is used in noncontact switches, level sensors, continuous cell density measurement devices [ 4 ], and pressure sensors [ 5 ]. A proximity capacitance image sensor, which consists of an array of capacitance sensors, can detect and visualize two-dimensional distributions of capacitance between sensor and target.
As shown in Figure 12 a, C S could be seen as a composite capacitance C sensor from the detection electrode to the chip surface, which was calculated from the passivation film thickness, and capacitance C ext. from the chip surface to the object.
